After a long, hot summer of hard work on the training field and continuous improvement, at last the (8) Nashville Kangaroos had the challenge they were working towards. (9) Chicago United were the reigning champions of the MAAFL with three consecutive titles while Nashville's last premiership was back in 2002. Both teams were undefeated in the MAAFL, leaving this final MAAFL clash for the championship.
The game started the way the Roos had hoped, with Chicago struggling to bring the ball into their attacking half. While Chicago's defense provided strong resistance, Luke "Ooga Booga" Nemeth, Dave "Mailman" Walker and "Sugar" Kane Harrison continually locked up the center and provided possessions for forwards such as Cliff "Nugget" Cosnahan, Chris "Bagman" Moerman and Bo Link. Goals by Moerman and Link had the Roos up by 14 points before Chicago got the ball to their forward line, but talent like Paul Meyer, Toby Allen and Brian Hoyt could not remain suppressed. Displaying tenacity and wet weather wizardry, these three kicked a goal apiece to end the quarter with Chicago leading 3.0 (18) to 2.3 (15).

(8) Nashville hosts (9) Chicago for MAAFL title |

On Saturday August 28, the No. 8 Nashville Kangaroos (6-2) host the No. 9 Chicago United (3-2) at Heartland Soccer Park, Nashville TN. Game time is set for 3.30pm (Central). The big clash will decide the 2010 Mid American AFL Championship. It will also determine whether Nashville has a chance to take the 2010 USFootyNews.com Premiership and whether both teams get Division 1 seeds for the 2010 USAFL National Championship Tournament in October.
Nashville has been in great form and must be considered favorites with the home ground advantage. The Roos were extremely impressive in their win on the road against Boston and then again at home against Cincinnati. Their big three Aussies, Luke Stockedale in the ruck, Damien Serong and Chris Moerman up forward are going to be extremely difficult for Chicago to contain. Add those Aussies to a solid mid-field with Revos like Dee Vsetecka and Luke Nemeth as well as up and coming players like Chris Cosnahan and Val Revin and you have what looks like one of the better teams in USFooty.
That said, Chicago is looking for a 4-Peat in the MAAFL and can not be written off. Chicago has not played as a unit since late June but they have had 4 rounds of the Chicago Metro League. Paul Meyer has led his Lincoln Square team to the top of the table with impressive performances up forward and will be looking to do the same for United.

The Minnesota Freeze went to the top of the USFootyNews.com table after taking care of the Kansas City Power on Saturday August 21.
Kansas City powered in to Minneapolis riding a 3 game winning streak against the Minnesota Freeze with the last Minnesota win dating back to the 2008 season. Minnesota came to the match
eager to prove that their recent cracking of the USFootyNews.com top 10 was no fluke and KC was more determined to prove that they were the ones who deserved a spot in the top 10.

There are just 4 rounds to go in the USFooty season. So it is time to get out the our crystal ball and gaze at who has the best chance to take the 2010 USFootyNews.com Premiership. There are three clubs with a legitimate (ie mathematical) chance of winning the flag. The winner will be the team with the most number of points at the end of season, with percentage used as the only tie-breaker.
The New York Magpies are on top of the table with 18 points and a percentage of 206. The points and percentage come from a record of 7-2, where 4 points are given for winning a standard length game and 2 points are given for winning a tournament length game. Percentage is the ratio of points scored over points against. The Magpies are followed by the Minnesota Freeze who have 16 points and a percentage of 293. This from a 4-1 record. Also on 16 points are the Nashville Kangaroos, who have a percentage of 198 from a 5-2 record. Behind them on 12 points are the Dallas Magpies and the Orange County Bombers, both of whom are undefeated in 2010. Be first to comment this article I Quote this article on your site I Views: 269 |

On a sweltering day with temperatures well into the triple digits, the Baltimore Washington Eagles hosted the New York Magpies, a rivalry which has become one of the most heated in the USAFL. In this “free flowing game of football” as Umpire Paul Reddacliff commented, the Eagles proved victorious in the last minutes of a brutal game of footy under the sun.
Within a minute of the first whistle, Magpie’s Captain Andy Brennan scored effortlessly after an assist by Assistant Coach and player Shane Batty. However, the Eagles’ battling spirit was not easily deterred. With 8 shots on goal during the first quarter, the Eagles were down by 3 points going into the second.

On Saturday July 24 at 1pm, the (2) New York Magpies (7-1) take on the (3) Baltimore Washington Eagles (2-2) at Baltimore's Bocek Park. The Magpies had the upper hand in the EAFL Tournament earlier in the year, so the Eagles will be looking to bounce back against their arch-rivals.
According to Magpies Head Coach, Glenn Ormsby, "The Eagles have been one of the best sides in the league the last few years and have had our measure over that period so we expect them to be very tough, especially on their home ground. The feeling around the club is that we will have to play somewhere near our best to be competitive in baltimore as they are very tough to beat, and always seem to play well against us. They move the ball quickly and are very well drilled.
