St Louis Hosts Nashville Kangaroos
Written by Chris Adams
Thursday, 05 June 2008

The improving St Louis Blues (1-1) face another test on Saturday when they host the Nashville Kangaroos (2-1). The Blues are backing up after being well beaten by Chicago United in Chicago. Nashville is hoping to cement its place atop the MAAFL Championship with a good performance in St Louis. Nashville have been at home for their first two MAAFL games but did very well against Chicago and held off a determined Cincinnati team. The Blues head coach,

Dan Sarbacker is cautious. “I expect they will be fired up; these clubs have traded wins over the past 6-8 years, and I would think that they feel as if we stole one from them last year down there in an absolute slogfest in the rain. They'll be eager to pick up a win and probably judge their win and our loss against Chicago as a barometer of the standard they are heading into.” A number of Revolution players will be plying their trade on Saturday. It will be interesting to see if Nashville can contain Sarbacker on the forward line and at the other end whether St Louis can stop Dee Vstecka.

Games are played in Buder Park, which is in the municipality of Valley Park, Missouri. Games start at 2:00.

Kookaburras fire at Duel in the Desert
Written by Wayne Kraska
Tuesday, 03 June 2008

The first women's footy games of the year were held on Saturday with the inaugural 'Duel in the Desert' Courtney Church, Arizona & Jenny Sarbacker, Atlantatournament hosted by the Arizona Lady Hawks. With temperatures expected to rise into the triple digits it was an early start with games starting not long after 8.00am. At the event were the newly formed Denver Lady Bulldogs and the Atlanta Lady Kookaburras as well as the hosts of course the Lady Hawks, runners-up at last years Nationals in Louisville.

Game #1 and as expected the Lady Kookaburras the reigning National Champions came to play and looked quickly to stamp their authority on proceedings against hosts the Arizona Hawks. Atlanta swapped their talls in Katie Grist and Meghan Brown through the ruck and they had a marked effect getting the ball down to rovers Jenny Sarbacker and Cathy Reinhardt. For Arizona it was Tina Arend and Courtney Church gathering the most possessions often feeding off the Kookaburra's rucks in well timed moves.

Atlanta Sweeps Baton Rouge
Written by Jim Batten
Tuesday, 03 June 2008

A warm sunny day and a surprisingly large crowd in Atlanta saw the second leg of the 2008 Atlanta/Baton Rouge rivalry. The game started fast and furiously with Baton Rouge kicking the first goal and putting lots of pressure on the Atlanta backs. Tiger's stalwart Pat Muller got their first major even though he was closely guarded by new Kookas player Nick Miklowski.

However, Baton Rouge's early lead quickly evaporated as the Atlanta running game got going and the ball stayed in their forward line for the rest of the quarter. With the experienced Warren Ballagh to aim for, Atlanta kicked the next five goals and dominated the first quarter. Ballagh finished with 3 goals for the quarter and provided a focal point for the Atlanta midfielders.

Chicago Runs over St Louis
Written by Paul Drake
Monday, 02 June 2008

Rogers Park, IL- On a wonderful Chicago day with the mercury in the mid 70's, the Windy City lived up to it's name with a cross ground breeze that made scoring difficult and concise ball movement tough. A good crowd had turned up to see United in their home opener against their old foe, the blue boys of St Louis who had come to the shores of Lake Michigan many a time only to return to the Mississippi with the 4 points.

Chicago went into the game favorites despite St Louis's massive win over the Minessotta Freeze and the butt kicking Nashville had given the United lads in Tennessee and it was an angry Chicago team that took the field, looking for redemption for that loss.

Las Vegas Host San Diego
Written by Chris Adams
Friday, 30 May 2008

The No. 1 San Diego Lions head to Las Vegas to take on the Gamblers at 7pm at Aviary Park. According to the Gambler President, Kurt Anderson, "We are expecting another clinic. They have just been extremely good every time we have played them. They run through, they link up, they don’t put the ball on the ground and their defense is outstanding especially when we try to get it out of our end of the ground. We do appreciate their willingness to play because we learn so much watching them.

We played San Diego twice last year and with all due respect to Denver and their dynasty, I think San Diego is the best team in America right now." Lions Head Coach, Simon Schenk, is hoping for good things. "We are very fortunate here at the Lions to have 5 Revolution team players, and with the International Cup only 3 months away, I expect those players, such as Brandon Blankenship, Donnie Lucero, Brett Ulman, JJ Cisneros and Justin Valley to lead from the front and show our new players the way. Also, look for our captain Brendan McDonald to be leading the way in the goal square."

Baton Rouge and Atlanta on Return Leg
Written by Chris Adams
Friday, 30 May 2008

The No. 9 Atlanta Kookaburras host the Baton Rouge Tigers at 2pm at Creel Park.  This is the return leg of their 2008 home and home series.  According to Kooka Head Coach, Jim Batten, "Baton Rouge always give it their best shot and they nearly knocked off Dallas a couple of weeks ago, so I know they have improved since we last played them. Pat Muller will be kicking himself for having got so close to Dallas and not beaten them, so I expect him to have his team ready to play. It'll be a close game and I'll be looking for the home crowd to spur us on to victory."  Get their early, enjoy the picnic atmosphere and a meat pie from the Australian Bakery Cafe.
