The Orange County Bombers leave the field after a good win.

The SCAFL Celebrates It’s 5th Season. Formed in 2006, the Southern California Australian Football League (SCAFL) has continued to see its numbers and popularity grow. While still made up of 4 teams – the Orange County Jets, Beachside Sharks, Riverside Football Club, and Los Angeles Swans – each side can now boast a roster of more than 15 players. In addition, the level of play has steadily risen each year, with 2010 looking to be the most competitive season yet.

Later in the year, players from these sides will combine to form the seniors and reserves teams for the Orange County Bombers 18-a-side club. Here now is a preview of this year’s SCAFL competition:

Both players scored 5 goals last Saturday for their team The Downtown Dingoes and will be odds on to reach the century this season with a possible two games to go. Roswell takes AARFL title
Written by Wayne Kraska
Tuesday, 06 January 2009

In a end to the season that could only be described as controversial the Roswell Rebels won the 2008 Fall AARFL Premiership trophy with a final game draw that wasn't verified till hours later.

One of the closest competitions in AARFL history came down to the last game of the season. A win by either team would give them the trophy. Midtown, with the better percentage, trailed Roswell by a game and after easily beating Roswell in the previous two games, felt confident about their chances. But Roswell would not lie down. There was never more than a goal in it during the game, until Midtown went up by 3 goals late in the last quarter. Or so they thought. It turns out the score board did not match the official scoresheet Midtown dropped back into second gear allowing Roswell to kick a couple of goals, one of them Garofalo, after the final siren had sounded.

KC Metro Grand Final
Written by Mark Lambert
Friday, 29 August 2008

KC Demon marksOn Saturday August 23 2008, the KC Demons faced the KC Tigers in the inaugural Kansas City Metro Grand Final. Having lost to the Tigers in the pre-season competition, the Grand Final provided some sweet revenge for the Red and Blues as they hung on in an epic to win by 9 points. Having tied in the final round of the regular season, some handy "ins" on both team sheets added great depth and firepower to the sides, and provided tipsters with plenty of headaches pre-game.

Once Umpire Kirkpatrick started proceedings it was the Demons who raced out of the blocks first setting up a handy first quarter lead. This was extended in the second, before the Big Cats clicked into gear and mounted a challenge after the main break. A couple of steadying majors from the Demons early in the final term saw them hang on and record a memorable victory. Working hard in the middle for them all day was Travis Kistler, who recieved plenty of support from Thias Amick and Ryan Richardson. For the runners-up it was the experienced Mark Scott and Brady Phillips, and rookies Carlos Santacruz and Travis Poytress that had their moments on the day.

Final scores:
KC Demons 10 - 10 - 70
KC Tigers 8 - 13 - 61.

Tigers Prevail in KC Metro Opener
Written by Mark Lambert
Wednesday, 18 June 2008

On a perfect day for footy, the KC metro season kicked off on Saturday June 14 2008, with an encouraging crowd witnessing a hardfought 8 point win for the Tigers.

Preseason form may have led many to believe that this game would have been an easy 4 points for the Black and Gold squad, but the Lions were a vastly improved outfit from the group that took the field in last month's Kirkie Cup. Better balanced and with this year's rookies having had two more weeks of practice under their belts, the Lions took it right up to their more experienced oponents. Strong tackling down back by Wallace and Phelps meant the Tigers had to work hard for every point, while Kistler and Amick were their usual damaging selves, creating many scoring opportunities for their forwards.

Kansas City Kicks off Metro Season
Written by Mark Lambert
Monday, 09 June 2008

KC Power Metro Teams go up for ruck.

Saturday May 31 saw the Kansas City Power host the Kirkie Cup Tournament. A beautiful day greeted the players and fans as the first serious hit-out for the year, played out over 3 preliminary games and the Cup Final.

Excellent performances from the many rookies and more seasoned campaigners produced a high quality of May footy, complete with specky goals and coach-pleasing tackles.

In the end, the Tigers prevailed, and ran out comfortable winners over the battle-weary Demons, with the Lions left to ponder what improvements are needed for the upcoming metro league season.

NoVA Hams Take DC Title
Written by Dave Schall
Wednesday, 04 June 2008

Over the course of the Baltimore Washington Metro season, Northern Virginia has been the team to beat. Riding momentum from their dominating performance in last season's grand final (114-15), the Hams took to this season's metro like a fish to water.

Piling points up on the scoreboard and doubling overall points against both DC and Maryland, losing only one game in four games played in local action, losing by one point in the inaugural Liberty Cup metro tournament's grand final, all the Hams had to do to cap off a fantastic metro season was quickly dispatch of Maryland's surprising and youthful surge at the end of the metro season.
