Saturday’s (April 26 2008) game between North Carolina and Baltimore Washington is shaping up as a battle of the young guns. DC is hosting this pre-EAFL game as the first leg of the home and home series between the two clubs. The second leg will be in North Carolina and will count for Eastern Australian Football League points.

The North Carolina Tigers are bringing a young team many of them fresh from the National Collegiate Championships at Vanderbilt, while the Eagles, are looking to give their younger players some match experience.

According to Tigers coach, Jason Heathcote, “The Tigers have had a brief pre season this year. We have only been practicing regularly for about five weeks and much of that time has been spent teaching and learning the fundamentals of the game. Like always, we have a very young and in-experienced playing group.” While Eagles coach, Aaron Tyndall is also suggesting a younger inexperienced team. “The Baltimore Eagles will take a relative inexperienced side into Saturday's practice match, as a group this will be our first “real” hit out for 2008 season. We are still working on developing the necessary skill level and proper understanding of the game, through our weekly trainings to be competitive unit this year. It will be a good test to see where we are at as playing group.”

Despite the youth on both sides there are some stars to keep an eye out for. Two Eagles were recently named to the Revo Squad. RJ Wheelock will take a key position and Jay Levesque is part of good young mid-field for the Eagles. “I think you should look at the likes of Jay Levesque, Kevin Stanley and Rich Strayer for future stars of the club. Levesque has come on in leaps and bounds in recent times and now he is starting really to impose himself as a star of the competition through the midfield,” says Tyndall. The Revo Squad also includes Paul Duncan who starts in the Center for the Tigers. Of course, it is difficult to miss Heathcote, as this former basketballer towers over his team and his opponents.

Game begins at 2.30pm at the Capitol Polo Grounds in Poolesville MD.
