From my position on the half back line I almost missed one of the biggest upsets of the year with the Philadelphia Hawks beating the No. 10 Boston Demons in Philly. My eyes were on the mid-west where the Minnesota Freeze was in a tight defensive struggle with Chicago United in Chicago and Kansas City was trying to win their first game of the year against the St Louis Blues.
Philadelphia and Boston moved their EAFL match up from July 12 to June 28, which certainly seemed to suit Philly. Jon Loring's boys in the brown and gold took their first EAFL win of 2008 against a Boston team that has just one win to its credit and is probably out of the EAFL race.
In the mid-west, the games were tight and tough. The Minnesota Freeze entered their inaugural MAAFL season with two tough road games against St Louis and Chicago. While the Freeze were handled well by the St Louis Blues, at three quarter time against Chicago the Freeze were dead even and looked a chance. However, Paul Drake's boys used their home ground advantage to the maximum to get a good win in a low scoring encounter.
Mark Lambert's Kansas City Power was looking to kick off its 2008 season in the right way with a win on the road against old foes, the St Louis Blues. But the trio of Dan's (Brown, Sergott and Sarbacker) put a stop to any of those thoughts. Lambert was pleased with his young charges. "A fifteen minute blitz by the Blues killed us. Other than that I thought we played well and took it up to the more experienced opposition. Our kids gave it all and continued to impress. We had some injuries to key players but spirits remained high and with a solid second half all looks good for the future."
Next weekend the camp chair will be off the half back line and at the park watching the fireworks. Then on Saturday July 12 it will be at Bocek Field in Baltimore for what should be a fantastic top of the table clash between the No. 4 New York Magpies and the No. 2 Baltimore Washington Eagles. It will then jet across to La Jolla CA to ride some waves and watch the No. 1 San Diego Lions take on the No. 5 Orange County Bombers. Quote this article on your site I Views: 258
