On Saturday June 28 2008, the KC Power (0-0) went across the state to continue one of the oldest rivalries in USFooty against the St Louis Blues (1-2). On an overcast afternoon but with the temperature in the low 80s, Mark Lambert's young Power team were keen to improve on some of their recent performances against the Blues.
Unfortunately, the Blues jumped them from the gate, kicking four goals to nothing in the first quarter and taking a commanding lead before the Power boys could catch their breath. At the quarter break it was 4.5 (29) to 0.2 (2).
Other than those four unanswered goals, the Power held their own against the 2007 Division 3 Champions. The Power moved the ball well to the forward line but the experienced Blues defenders were able to hold off the attacks. At the half, the Power had kicked three goals to get some respectability while the Blues added two, 6.7 (43) to 3.3 (21).
The third quarter went goal for goal. For the most part the Blues trio of Dan Brown, Dan Sarbacker and Dan Sergott were able to control the midfield, each scoring. At the last break, the Blues had extended the lead slightly giving them 10.10 (70) to 7.3 (45).
While down by a good margin, the Power never gave in but they were not able to stop the Blues from further pushing out the lead. The Blues finished 12.15 (87) to 8.6 (54).
Blues Head Coach, Dan Sarbacker, was pretty pleased with the win. "We didn't have much experience, so the tactical football was not pretty at times, but everybody worked hard and got after the football. We got great contributions from new guys and veterans alike. It was a good win for us."
