Nashville host Florida United

The Florida Redbacks and the Fort Laurderdale Fighting Squids have teamed up to form Florida United (2-3), a team that destroyed Atlanta back on May 10 and beat the 2007 National Champions, the Denver Bulldogs, in Fort Lauderdale. The combined team is hoping to be competitive in Division II come October. This Saturday's match up against No. 7 Nashville Kangaroos (4-1) in Nashville will be a big test for the young club. A win against a Top 10 team on the road will certainly show that Florida United means business and deserves at least an invitation to Division II.

Game time is 2pm on Saturday July 19 at Elmington Park in Nashville TN. Post game begins at 8pm at the Sportsman's Grille in the Village.

On the flip-side, a win by Nashville will likely cement their place in the Top 10 and make them a good prospect to get a Division I invitation. Nashville leads the MAAFL table with a 3-0 record and their only loss was in their first game of the year to Atlanta on the road. Nashville easily accounted for the 2007 Division III Champs, the St Louis Blues, on the road and the 2007 MAAFL Champs, Chicago, at home. In terms of individual talent, Nashville has Chris Moerman at Full Forward who leads the USFootyNews goal kicking tally by 13 goals! On the ball, Nashville has Revo Luke Nemeth, who leads the USFootyNews MVP table.

Florida's Joshua Goodstein is looking forward to the game after a long break for Florida United. "We have had more scratch matches and contests than before. The practice time and frequency has also been increased. One interesting thing the Fort Lauderdale team did was revert back to its old field to help us prepare for grounds that are not pristine, sounds silly but it truly is important. The clubs are really functioning well as one unit."
