All the action was in the mid-west this weekend with two big games on Saturday July 19 2008. First, in the MAAFL Championship Division, the St Louis Blues (2-2) hosted the Milwaukee Bombers (1-1). Second, the No. 7 Nashville Kangaroos (4-1) hosted the up and coming Florida United (2-3). Probably the surprise of the day was the ease with which Milwaukee was able handle St Louis on the road. While the highlight was the play of USFootyNews' leading goal kicker, Chris Moerman who added another 5 for an impressive tally of 33 goals for 2008.
The first quarter of Milwaukee/St Louis game was pretty close. However, in the second and third quarters the Bombers were able add seven goals to the Blues two, with Darren Gresham and Captain Ross Siegel adding two each. The Blues started to come back in the third term and match it with the Bombers. In the last the Blues had plenty of chances but kicked a shocking 2.9. Coach Dan Sarbacker thought his boys played much better in the last half of the game and created plenty of chances in the last. The last quarter was summed up by Blue Jim Martin, "We couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a broad-side-of-a-barn seeking missile."
Further south, the Nashville Kangaroos continued their winning ways in a non-MAAFL game that will certainly have implications for October. Florida United had destroyed Atlanta and were competitive in the Faststream Invitational, but this was their first big test on the road. However, Florida was never in the hunt after the second quarter. Nashville kicked six goals to two and then continued to kick away in the second half. Chris Moerman led Nashville with five goals. Moerman is looking a shoe-in to take the USFootyNews Goal Kicking, averaging over six and half goals a game.
