Milwaukee Bombers

The Milwaukee Bombers took their second away victory in the 2008 MAAFL season topping St. Louis by 27 points.

Conditions were hot and humid as the sun broke through the early morning clouds to produce temperatures in the mid 90s at tip off. Playing on a small field, Milwaukee needed adjustment time. The game’s scrappy start was highlighted by Jeremy Moore’s soccer-off-the-ground-kick for Milwaukee’s opening major.

The first break’s adjustments were all that were needed to open the door to a 2nd quarter surge. Darren Gresham swapped positions with Moore and the change proved to be the catalyst that saw Milwaukee home. Gresham marked and kicked brilliantly in the forward line and Jeremy Moore gave the Blues’ Revo ruckman Dan Sergot a lesson, his tenacity trumping Revo hype.

Defiant to the last, St. Louis’ 4th quarter surge lead by Dan Sarbacker’s sweeping runs from the back had Bomber supporters clinching their teeth - but the defense held strong thanks to loose players pulled to the backline. Bomber center half back Petey “the Greek” Apostolidis thwarted the surge multiple times with strong scrappy play and on-mark disposals to deflect and hold the pressure. Overall Bomber pressure applied on the Blues' forwards forced shots off goal – final 4th quarter Blues scoring tallied only two goals-eight (2.8). Not enough for the win but close enough for a tight finish.

"We were able to find space, use the ball well, and make the most of opportunities while in the attacking 50,” said Milwaukee coach Heath Moore.
