It was a weekend of upsets in USFooty. The match of the week was in Milwaukee where the No. 7 Nashville Kangaroos were taking on the Milwaukee Bombers in one of the deciding games of the 2008 MAAFL season. The Milwaukee Bombers were triumphant with a six goal win that puts them on the top of the MAAFL ladder, equal on points with Nashville and Chicago but a game in hand. The other upset was in New York, where the visiting Boston Demons beat the No. 4 New York Magpies by six points in a non-EAFL game.

The Milwaukee Bombers are now undefeated in MAAFL play with two wins on the road and one at home. Beating Nashville puts them in the box seat for the 2008 MAAFL Championship and an invitation to Division 1 of the USFooty National Championship Tourney. Head Coach, Heath Moore, asked his players for their best game on Saturday and they delivered against the more fancied Kangaroos. "We dominated in the center of the ground. We also were very disciplined in defense. Our disposals, especially handballs, were much more deliberate than Nashville's which kept us in possession of the footy."

Up next, Milwaukee on the road against Minnesota and then on September 13 they host arch rivals, Chicago United, in the game that could decide the MAAFL Championship. Nashville are still in the running but will need some luck and will need to beat Minnesota on the road in the last game of the year.

Talking about arch rivals, two of the oldest rivals in USFooty were hard at in Yonkers on Saturday. The Boston Demons, with new and former Head Coach, Scott Nicholas, at the helm where able to get the win against New York in a hard fought game that these two clubs are known for. Acting Head Coach of New York, Shane Devine, although disappointed with the loss, felt that it was an invaluable experience for the young team that New York put on the track on Saturday.

The midfield was dominated by the players that they flew in for that match that dont normally play on their side. Nashville didn't play up to their established standard of footy but they were definately not fielding players that are not a regular part of their team either. If that is going to be the accepted method of ensuring a win in USAFL then the league is sure to get out of hand with no pure ranking and respect for any team. Nashville has its extremely small core of Aussies but credits itself on fielding the team it has developed through hard work...not a team of one time ringers. I hope the league finds a way to nip this kind of thing in the bud. That being said, the Rooboys are going to work twice as hard so that no matter who is brought against us, it won't matter... :( :( :(
