On Saturday August 2, 2008, the Boston Demons (2-2) were on the road to take on the No. 4 New York Magpies (6-2). Conditions were wet and slippery for the game due to early rain in New York. In the first quarter, it was visible that Boston had turned up to play as they controlled a majority of the play and opened up with some strong marking in the forward line. With a majority of the possession, Boston struggled to convert and take the advantage on the scoreboard.  The quarter ended Boston 1.4 (10) leading New York 1.0 (6).

The second quarter saw New York come out fired up and taking control of the game, kicking 3 early goals in the quarter. Boston played undiscipline football at times that allowed New York to kick 5 goals to 1 goal in the second quarter and take a 19 point lead into the main break.  New York led at the half 6.1 (37) to 2.6 (18).

Half time had the Boston coach, Scott Nicholas, urging the team to stick to its game plan. The third quarter began in a similar fashion to the first quarter with Boston controlling a lot of the play. Boston was able to get strong rebound from their half back line in which the forward line capitalized on kicking 5.2 to 1 point to overcome the half time deficit and take a 2 goal lead at the final change.  The score was Boston 7.8 (50) led New York 6.2 (38).

The final quarter was an even contest with Boston jumping out to an early 3 goal lead followed by New York kicking 3 straight goals getting within 1 point of Boston. Boston was able to hold their composure in the final minutes of the game kicking a goal and running out eventual 6 point winners.
