The St. Louis Blues won their first championship trophy at the USAFL National Championships winning the Division III title after a tough battle against the Las Vegas Gamblers who had won the same crown the previous year on home turf.
The Blues had a 4-2 record for the year coming into the weekend and were well placed to be very competitive all weekend. On Saturday St Louis easily accounted for the host team the Louisville Kings then later the Arizona Hawks who have been disappointing since a Div 2 finals appearance at Atlanta in 2004.

Sunday morning and it was a semi-final match up against the Cincinnati Dockers, a team they had beaten easily earlier in the year at home. Cinci had also gone 2-0 on the Saturday games so were set to gain some revenge perhaps against one of their closest rivals. The Blues however had other ideas and kept the Dockers scoreless after half time to earn themselves a crack at the Division III trophy.

So it was to the afternoon final, Las Vegas had also gone through their pool games undefeated with wins against Kansas City Power, Florida Redbacks, and Baton Rouge Tigers. The later not able to continue their quest for a three in a row appearances in the Division III final. The final played on the large and dusty main arena was a test for both teams but the Blues were able to finish full of running with three telling goals after half time. Final scores, St Louis  4.7-31 to Las Vegas 2.4-16.

Dan Sergott was awarded the Most Consistent Player award for his performance in pool play, and Dan Sarbacker who looked like he had a leg injury on Saturday came back to win the Grand Final MVP. Certainly an indication of the determination of the Revolution star. More good news for St Louis was Ben Lipman scored his 100th career goal and club Captain Jim Martin played his 100th game during the weekend. A great weekend for the long time MAAFL club and perhaps a springboard to a bigger and better year in 2008.
