On Saturday August 23 2008, the KC Demons faced the KC Tigers in the inaugural Kansas City Metro Grand Final. Having lost to the Tigers in the pre-season competition, the Grand Final provided some sweet revenge for the Red and Blues as they hung on in an epic to win by 9 points. Having tied in the final round of the regular season, some handy "ins" on both team sheets added great depth and firepower to the sides, and provided tipsters with plenty of headaches pre-game.
Once Umpire Kirkpatrick started proceedings it was the Demons who raced out of the blocks first setting up a handy first quarter lead. This was extended in the second, before the Big Cats clicked into gear and mounted a challenge after the main break. A couple of steadying majors from the Demons early in the final term saw them hang on and record a memorable victory. Working hard in the middle for them all day was Travis Kistler, who recieved plenty of support from Thias Amick and Ryan Richardson. For the runners-up it was the experienced Mark Scott and Brady Phillips, and rookies Carlos Santacruz and Travis Poytress that had their moments on the day.
Final scores:
KC Demons 10 - 10 - 70
KC Tigers 8 - 13 - 61.
