MAAFL Championship in the balance

In another twist for the Championship MAAFL competition Chicago United gave themselves a great chance of taking the 2008 title with a solid win over the Milwaukee Bombers on Saturday. The 50 point win 10.14 (74) to 3.6 (24) moves United to the top of the MAAFL ladder after their five games and clear of Milwaukee in second place, but Nashville still have a chance of causing another upset.

The Nashville Kangaroos sharpened up for the challenge with a home game against the Atlanta Kookaburras coming from a mile back to kick five goals in the last quarter and win another thriller against their old and nearest rivals. Their task however next Saturday will be a lot bigger as they have to travel to play the Minnesota Freeze away and then also win by a large margin to make up the difference in percentage.

Roughly a 70 point win, somewhere like 100 to 30 will be required by the Kangaroos to snatch the title from Chicago who must just wait out the day to hear their fate. Nashville also will probably need the return of leading goalkicker Chris Moerman who was notably missing from their win on Saturday against the Kookaburras.

So it really is down to the wire with either Nashville or Chicago looking to win that automatic invite into Div 1 at the Nationals and be the 2008 MAAFL Champions
