Dallas too strong for KC

On Saturday June 20, as part of the Dallas Tourney, the Dallas Magpies hosted the Kansas City Power.

The Magpies put the Power under pressure early by keeping it down in their forward line, and through the frustration of trying to clear the ball and keep the Magpies wings clipped they gave away a crucial free to kick to none other than the Dallas Magpies goal sneak Duncan Relf, who had no issues slotting the first major through for the day. In an after game interview Relf was asked about his efforts on his only goal for the day and he said that he thought about reeling around to snap ball through however he was no that confident in the ball going through so “I thought I might just push the ball a little wider and let the breeze do the work” Indeed it did.

In the middle of the ground Rob Kleifgen keep up his consist personal performance for the team by winning the tap downs and feeding the on ballers, who again continued to mount attacks into the forward line. The Magpies defense was hardly stretched in the first half and when it was Chris Olles made himself well aware to the Kansas forwards that he was not going to let them get an easy goal. The Magpies defense kept the Power scoreless in the first half.

There were some good passages of play through the middle, second gamer Brandon Peek impressed everyone with his ability to get the ball out on the wing and take on the opposition with quick pace and agility. Peek’s performance was inspirational in keeping the Magpies on the attack, on one of the many occasions he put the ball forward it was gathered by Adam Frizzel who made no mistake in converting the left foot snap giving the Magpies their second goal in the first half.

The two targets up front veteran Jess Wortman and Steven Bass. Wortman continued to provide a strong target for marking the ball or at least bringing the ball to ground and giving the on ballers a chance to capitalize. Wortman was rewarded for his hard work with one of his own goals late in the first half converting from 30 yards out. Steven Bass continued to work himself into space also giving himself room to put the ball deep into the Magpies attacking forward fifty, he was unlucky not to get a goal himself and should have been rewarded with at least two assists.

Kansas had the wind advantage going into the second half and managed to put two of their own goals on. The Magpies were down a key player through work horse Steven Moore who continued work hard until midway through the second half where his game was ended abruptly with a broken nose.

The Power’s only two goals could not make up the deficit and they were beaten by the Dallas Magpies in their first meeting for the year.

KC Head Coach, Mark Lambert, was happy with the effort despite the loss. "For our first Power run I was very impressed with our effort for most of the day. We really made the locals work hard for their win."
