WorldFootyNews.com and USFootyNews.com are teaming up to present the 2008 USFooty Top 10 Poll. To kick things off we are having a Top 10 Countdown for the Preseason Top 10. Who are the best teams in USFooty?

The San Diego Lions are Number 2 in the WFN/USFN Top 10 Poll. The San Diego Lions won the 2007 USFooty League Premiership with 24 points and a percentage of 301. The Lions finished the year 9-1 and Number 2 in the World Footy News Top 10 Poll.

While holding down the number 1 position through out the year, the Lions only lost one game – the National Championship game against the Denver Bulldogs. Just one goal separated the two top teams in the USFooty Championship game.

Losing the final after such a great season was pretty hard. According to president, Brandon Blankenship, “of course the loss to Denver was disappointing, but we had a great season last year. After losing to Denver by one goal in the championship game last year, this year we have the opportunity to meet Denver at Nationals in their home town. You can't ask for more motivation than that.” After the loss, former Essendon Coach, Kevin Sheedy, spoke to the losing team. “Having Sheeds speak to us after the game was great. It didn't take the sting away from the loss, but he reminded us that it's part of the game that we all love so much. Every game has a winner and a loser. If there wasn't a chance to lose, it wouldn't be worth playing,” says Blankenship.

The Lions have a busy year. Their new head coach, Simon Schenk, will lead the club in a home and home series against the Orange County Bombers, the Las Vegas Gamblers and the Golden Gate Roos. They play Golden Gate at home and then again in Santa Barbara, which is half way between San Diego and San Francisco. The team is also likely to supply a number of the Revolution players. “While the US Revolution team has not yet been announced, I'm certain that the San Diego Lions will be well represented on the team. The opportunity for our American players to play at a high level of competitive football in Australia can only make us a stronger team,” says Blankenship. The club is also developing Rec Coed Footy league and has a 3 team metro competition each Friday night.
